Route: Mutnovskiy Volcano Climb – Gorelyi Volcano climb – Avacha Bay cruise – Rafting/fishing trip down the Bystraya river.
Flat Tolbachik (3085m, active) and Sharp Tolbachik (3682m, extinct) volcanoes are located in the central part of Kamchatka region, south of the highest volcano in the Eurasian region called Klyuchevskaya Sopka (4800m), and 600km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. Flat Tolbachik and Sharp Tolbachik appear as a single volcano from a distance due to their close proximity to each other.
Tolbachik latest eruption started on the 27th of November 2012, and lasted up until February 2014. The eruption before that, which is known as the “Big-split Tolbachik Eruption”, occurred in the years of 1974-75. The eruption resulted in the formation of new cone-volcanoes in the areas called “Southern Rupture” and “Northern Rupture”.
On this trip, we will be passing through the moon rover testing grounds, enormous lava fields, observing the cones of “young” volcanoes of the Northern Rupture area, as well as climbing them (299m and 278m). We will also pass by the lava caves and walk through the “dead forest”.
Arrival at the Elizovo Airport. Hotel transfer. Resting after the flight. Swimming in the thermal-pools.
Breakfast. Lunch in the cafe of Milkovo settlement.
Late in the evening, arriving to the base camp located under the “Claw” volcanic cone on the Tolbachik Volcano area.
Overnight stay in tents.
Exploring the area of the 2013-14 eruption. Visiting the Naboko cone.
Exploring the cave with stalactites and stalagmites. Lunch – lunch boxes. Exploring the crack with hot lava.
Return to the base camp.
Dinner. Overnight stay in tents.
Breakfast. Departing towards the Flat Tolbachik volcano base. Ascending towards the volcano crater. Crater is 1.7km wide and 500m deep. Lunch snack. The ascent takes approximately 8-10 hours. (Return to the base camp. Dinner. Overnight stay in tents.
Breakfast. Driving towards the Southern rupture area (15km, 1 hour). Observing lava-flows and lava caves. Lunch snack. A walk through the “dead forest” (3-4 hours). Return to the base camp. Departing towards Kozyrevsk settlement (80km, 4 hours). Dinner. Overnight stay in Kozyrevsk.
Breakfast. Driving to Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy (500km, 10 hours).Lunch in Milkovo. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Breakfast. Avacha Bay boat cruise. Visiting the “Starichkov” island in the Pacific Ocean. Fishing, fish-soup preparation, tasting fresh crab meat and sea urchin caviar. Lunch on the boat. Observing the “Three Brothers” rock formation. During our cruise you will get a chance to observe seals, killer whales and various sea-bird colonies. While on our boats, we will explore grottoes in the Tikhaya bay. Returning to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Breakfast. Driving towards Mutnovskiy volcano. Stopping for lunch at the Vilyuchinskiy pass. This spot opens up an amazing view of the Vilyuchinskiy and Gorelyi volcanoes, as well as the fascinating Kamchatka alpine plato. Establishing a base camp. Dinner. Overnight stay in tents.
Breakfast. Ascending towards Gorelyi volcano crater. (3 hours, vertical rise of 800 meters). Inspecting the craters, fumaroles and the crater lake. Lunch snack. Returning to the base camp. Dinner. Returning to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Breakfast. Departing towards Bystraya river (150km, 3 hours). Rafting down the river and fishing. (3 hours). Lunch. Visiting the Malki natural thermal pools. Returning to the hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel.
Breakfast.Visiting the markets and souvenir shops. Airport transfer.
